  Introduction:

The Lord Buddha Educational Academy Ltd. was established is B.S. 2053 with the main objective to ‘Develop the Nation by imparting Quality Education’ and provide quality health care at the affordable cost. Its first venture was Nepalgunj Medical College, Banke that runs the MBBS program. In the process of successfully running the program, a 500-beded Teaching Hospital with sophisticated equipments at Kohalpur and 125 - bedded Teaching Hospital at Nepalgunj are fully operational, currently. It was visualized that the need for the staff nurse for teaching hospitals would be inevitable so the founders of the Nepalgunj medical college realized the very fact that this scarce manpower in these remote part of the country will always create a void in the health care delivery system in totality. As in the past the founder of LBEA Ltd. were committed in overall development of this deprived region, this spirit compelled them in establishment of a nursing school of its own. The main aim of introducing the nursing program was to develop self-reliant and devoted nurse to cater the need of modern health care system that are scare in the national level.

The Nepalgunj nursing campus was established to fulfill the following main objectives :

n Empowerment of female gender of the country

nDirectly participate in the development of scarce human resource.

nFulfillment of nursing personnel of its teaching hospital

nTo contribute in the betterment of the health delivery system of the country.

The management of the Lord Buddha Educational Academy Ltd manages the Nepalgunj Nursing Campus. As it is the subsidiary program of the organization, most of the resources is financed by it, though the campus is in itself an autonomous entity operated by the Campus Chief. Initially, the program was operated in a rented building with many difficulties and constraints in Nepalgunj. Today the campus has been shifted completely to Kohalpur with all modern facilities and infrastructures.

The first batch of Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing was started in 2057. Since then, four batches has been enrolled in the campus. The first batch has appeared in the final exams and they are expecting their results soon. Most of the product of the campus will be accommodated in its Teaching Hospitals.

The faculties of the campus are experienced teachers and professionals from Nepal and India. The students get exposure from the day first in its own Teaching Hospitals and its associated hospitals, such as Bheri Zonal Hospital and Fatte-Bal Eye Hospital. Further, the students visit to the health centers and community based field trips in and around the campus vicinity. Thus campus administration is committed in creation of a better environment in providing supportive and therapeutic interventions based on theoretical and scientific knowledge so as to produce the nursing professionals of higher standards.

Faculty

The Vice- Principal , Mrs. Kunti Tiwari , heads the campus. There are 15 highly skilled full time faculty members from the country and India to train the budding nurses to cope up with new challenges in the fast developing world and nursing profession.

The Curriculum

The three-year Proficiency Certificate Level Nursing Program adopts a curriculum, which reflects the basic principles and the elementary primary health care and the principles of prevention in a comprehensive health care system. The three years program of Nursing is planned from simple to complex components on nursing practice.

The subject covered during the course are integrated sciences related to health science, fundamentals of nursing, community health nursing, nutrition and bio-chemistry, behavioural sciences, child health nursing, midwifery, adult nursing, leadership and management, etc.

The campus is affiliated to Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and the program, Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing (PCL in Nursing) is recognized by Nepal Nursing Council (NNC). There are 40 seats in each batch and the admission procedures are in accordance with the CTEVT guidelines. The session starts from second week of Kartik, every year.

The Academic Facilities:

The academic block consists of three spacious classrooms; one audiovisual aided room; one community room; one meeting hall; three demonstration rooms; and a spacious library with books numbering about 800 and above. The Library is equipped with all kind of nursing and general books those of foreign publishers. Besides, there are various periodicals and newspapers. The multi-media lab facilities are available to promote the computer literacy among the students. The students take special conversational English classes to cope up with the new demands.

The Physical Facilities :

There are eleven buildings that are used for the Nursing Campus with total built-up area of 43000sq.ft. For the extra-curricular activities, a separate recreation room measuring about 600 sq.ft. is available for the in-door games along with the outdoor game facilities in the campus.

It has its own water supply system with water storage capacity of 20000 liters as an overhead tank and additional 12000 liters above different building in its premises. A deep boring and three tube-well are used for uninterrupted water supply. To further enhance the quality of drinking water the Euro-guards has been supplied in the mess, classrooms and the hostels.

The campus has its own 100-KVA transformer for continuous electricity supply. In case of power failure, the Generator of 63-KVA is standby for the alternative arrangement. Thus, the campus power supply system is uninterrupted making the students stay comfortable and study hour regular.

The campus has its own bus with the capacity of more than 26 seats. This facilitates the movement of students to fulfill their academic requirements. The Medical College transportation means are always ready to fulfill the further requirement of the campus movement.

The entire road in and around the campus is black topped. As the premises were planned for the Medical College Community Hospital, the sanitation and the drainage systems are up to the mark without any complaint. The greenery and the vegetation are well looked after by the gardeners, which can be felt by passing around the campus.

The Future Plans:

The management of the Teaching Hospital in co-ordination with the Nursing Campus plans to train their nursing staffs in various specialties field. In the process of forward integration, the LBEA management has also decided to introduce Bachelor in Nursing in the future
